Data Monitors

What's a monitor?

A monitor sends an alert when the results of a Data Diff fall outside predefined ranges for two metrics, the number of different rows and percentage of different rows. Monitors can be set on a predefined schedule to execute on a recurring basis.

Monitors & replication testing

Monitors can be used for ongoing data replication validation between databases to ensure source-to-target parity in data pipelines.

For example, your data team may use a diff monitor to compare data differences between a transactional database backend (e.g., Postgres) and an analytics data warehouse (e.g., Snowflake), triggering alerts if inconsistencies arise.

Creating monitors

You can create a monitor in Datafold Cloud in two ways: as a diff monitor or a custom SQL query monitor.
